Before Moses died, he and the people of Yisharal had defeated the two Kings East of the Jordan River, then he gave the Tribes of Reuben, Gad, and East Menassah their land (at their request) East of the Jordan.
Later, Joshua and the Yisharalites defeated thirty-one of the Kings West of the Jordan River, taking this land from the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and the Jebusites. Then Joshua divided up the land among the tribes of Yisharal.
EVERYTHING THAT LED UP TO THIS MOMENT IN YISHARAL’S HISTORY POINTED TOWARDS THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE LAND AMONG YAHUSHA’S PEOPLE. CONQUERING THE LAND IS ONE THING, BUT WHAT IS DONE WITH THE LAND IS ANOTHER THING ENTIRELY. JOSHUA WAS TO DIVIDE THE LAND AND GIVE IT TO THE PEOPLE, NOT TO OWN IT OR PERSONALLY CONTROL IT AS YISHARAL’S LEADER. AND SUCH A PROCEDURE WAS GENERALLY UNKNOWN IN HISTORY UP TO THIS TIME. FOR A KING OR LEADER TO HAVE AN ENORMOUS ARMY CAPABLE OF OVERTHROWING ENTIRE REGIONS MEANT THAT HE ALREADY HAD A LARGE AND ESTABLISHED CENTER OF CIVILISATION AND HEADQUARTERS FOR CONTROL AND OPERATION. HE HAD FIELDS TO GROW FOOD FOR HIS ARMY; A TAX BASE TO COLLECT MONEY TO BUY SUPPLIES FOR HIS SOLDIERS; FOUNDRIES AND THOUSANDS OF CRAFTSMEN TO FASHION WEAPONS; AN ESTABLISHED, TRAINED, AND WELL-ORGANISED MILITARY LEADERSHIP. YISHARAL HAD NONE OF THIS. HOW CAN A WANDERING HORDE OF PEOPLE WITH NO COUNTRY, NO FIELDS FOR FOOD AND NO FOUNDRIES FOR MAKING WEAPONS, HAVE THE ABILITY TO BE AN UNSTOPPABLE CONQUERING FORCE OVER A SUBSTANTIAL REGION OF MULTIPLE KINGDOMS THAT WERE ENTRENCHED, WELL DEFENDED, WELL FUNDED, AND MANY HAD SIZEABLE STANDING ARMIES?
ANSWER: IT CAN’T HAPPEN EXCEPT BY THE HAND OF YAHUSHA.
FURTHER WHEN A KING CONQUERED TERRITORY IT WAS MEANT FOR ANYTHING BUT THE PEOPLE. RATHER IT WAS HIS; IT WAS TO SATISFY HIS PERSONAL AMBITIONS AND LUST FOR POWER. THE PEOPLE MERELY LIVED BY HIS PERMISSION IN HIS LAND. IT’S NOT THAT PEOPLE DIDN’T OWN FARMLANDS AND BUSINESSES, AND SO ON; IT’S THAT THE NATION BELONGED ENTIRELY TO THE KING.
YET YAHUSHA’S PLAN FOR YISHARAL’S ECONOMY WAS REVOLUTIONARY: NO RULER WOULD OWN THE LAND OR CONTROL THE NATION. RATHER THE LAND WOULD BE DIVIDED UP ACCORDING TO TRIBE AND THEN THE TRIBAL LEADER WOULD DIVVY IT UP ACCORDING TO THE CLANS THAT TOGETHER FORMED HIS TRIBE. THE YISHARALITE TRIBAL PRINCE WAS CALLED A NASI, A CHIEFTAIN, NOT A KING. HE WAS NOT ROYALTY; HE WAS THE HEAD, THE PATRIARCH, OF A VERY LARGE EXTENDED FAMILY CALLED A TRIBE. HIS FIRST DUTY WAS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS PEOPLE’S WELL-BEING; HE WAS THEIR FATHER AND WAS TO BEHAVE THAT WAY.
JUST AS MOSES SET THE EXAMPLE FOR JOSHUA, JOSHUA WAS TO HAVE BEEN THE EXAMPLE FOR ALL OF YISHARAL’S FUTURE LEADERS TO FOLLOW. THEY WERE NOT TO BE KINGS, THEY WERE TO BE A COUNCIL OF EQUALS, A CONFEDERATION OF TRIBES WHO HAD COME FROM THE LOINS OF A SINGLE EARTHLY FATHER, JACOB (CALLED YISHARAL). THEIR LOYALTY WAS NOT TO BE TO A KING, IT WAS TO BE TO THEIR MIGHTY, LIVING ALAHIM YAHUSHA. JUST AS WITH THE PAGAN WORLD IT WAS A KING WHO ULTIMATELY OWNED THE NATION AND THUS ALL THE LAND OF THAT NATION, SO IT WAS THAT YAHUSHA THE ALAHIM OF YISHARAL WAS THE TRUE KING OF YISHARAL AND THUS OWNED THE NATION OF YISHARAL AND ALL THE LAND HE HAD GIVEN TO THEM TO POSSESS, NOT OWN.
WITH THIS HISTORY AND UNDERSTANDING WE CAN SEE WHY IT WAS THAT YAHUSHA DID NOT WANT YISHARAL TO HAVE AN EARTHLY KING. INTRODUCING SUCH A THING INTO YISHARALITE SOCIETY WOULD CHANGE THE ENTIRE DYNAMIC OF YAHUSHA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS PEOPLE, AND THE PEOPLE’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR LEADER. A KING MUST HAVE THE LOYALTY OF HIS PEOPLE; BUT IN YAHUSHA’S PLAN FOR YISHARAL ALL THEIR LOYALTY WAS TO BE TOWARDS HIM. WITH THE ADVENT OF A HUMAN KING, THE PEOPLE’S LOYALTY WOULD BE DIVIDED BETWEEN YAHUSHA AND THE KING OF YISHARAL. IF A HUMAN KING WAS TO BE EFFECTIVE IN THIS PRESENT WORLD, HE MUST HAVE THE LOYALTY AND OBEDIENCE OF HIS PEOPLE. SAUL, THE FIRST KING OF YISHARAL, WAS A POOR KING AND REALLY DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO GOVERN AS A KING. DAVID WAS A GOOD KING AND PROVIDED STRONG LEADERSHIP, BUT HE WAS HARDLY IDEAL. SOLOMON WAS NOT AS GOOD AS HIS FATHER, DAVID, BUT HE CARED DEEPLY FOR THE PEOPLE AND LOVED YAHUSHA. SOLOMON CONSOLIDATED HIS POWER, INSTITUTED HEAVY TAXES, AND WORKED HARD TO CREATE ALLIANCES WITH HIS NEIGHBOURS.
AND EVERY STEP OF THE WAY, EACH KING THAT WAS RAISED UP IN YISHARAL DEMANDED MORE FROM THE PEOPLE AND GAVE LESS THAN THE KING BEFORE HIM. IN TIME SOME OF THESE KINGS EVEN FELT JEALOUS OF ANY LOYALTY THE PEOPLE OF YISHARAL HAD TO YAHUSHA, AND SO THEY INTRODUCED FALSE DEITIES AND IDOLS TO TRY AND DESTROY THEIR CONNECTION WITH THE ALAHIM OF YISHARAL.
ANYWAY, WHO OWNS THE LAND IS EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO YISHARAL. WHO THE PEOPLE GIVE THEIR LOYALTY TO IS EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO YISHARAL AND THOSE GRAFTED INTO YISHARAL, YAHUSHA'S BRIDE.
AS WE’VE MENTIONED BEFORE, THE SET-APART WAR FOR THE PROMISED LAND IS STILL BEING WAGED IN BOTH DIMENSIONS TODAY, AND THE COMING BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON AT YAHUSHA’S RETURN IS LITERALLY THE FINAL BATTLE FOR THE PROMISED LAND, THAT JOSHUA AND ALL THE LEADERS OF YISHARAL AFTER HIM, NEVER ACCOMPLISHED (OF COURSE WE KNOW THE SECRET OF WHERE THE PROMISED LAND TRULY IS TODAY). AND WITH THE TAKING OF THE DIVINE REAL ESTATE (HEARTS AND MINDS OF MEN AND WOMEN) IT WILL BE THE TAKING OF THE WHOLE WORLD BY MESSIAH. YAHUSHA WILL ONCE AGAIN BE KING AS WAS ALWAYS INTENDED, AND NO WORLDLY HUMAN KING WILL EVER AGAIN RULE ON THIS PLANET.
AND ALL THIS STEMS FROM THE TIME OF JOSHUA. AREN’T YAHUSHA’S PATTERNS AMAZING !!

And Joshua was very old, so Yahusha said to him, “You are very old, but there’s still a lot of land that Yisharal hasn’t taken yet".
ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE
JOSHUA WAS ONE OF THE 2 SCOUTS OF THE FIRST EXODUS GENERATION WHO HAD SPIED OUT CAANAN ORIGINALLY, THEREFORE HE WAS VERY OLD, SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 85-95. NOT ONLY THAT, UNLIKE MOSES, WHO WAS AS STRONG WHEN HE DIED AS HE WAS MANY YEARS EARLIER, HERE WE READ THAT AGE HAD TAKEN ITS TOLL ON JOSHUA. MOSES WAS NOT A WARRIOR, JOSHUA WAS. HE FOUGHT IN MANY BATTLES AND HE LIVED A DANGEROUS AND HARD LIFE. YOU DON’T FIGHT AS MUCH AS JOSHUA HAD WITHOUT THE STRESS AFFECTING YOU AND WITHOUT VARYING BATTLE WOUNDS, AND JOSHUA'S ENERGY WAS NEARLY SPENT.
THEREFORE, SINCE THE ORDER FROM YAHUSHA WAS TO CONQUER ALL OF CANAAN AND THAT HADN’T HAPPENED YET, JOSHUA PROBABLY WASN’T MENTALLY PREPARED TO DIVIDE UP THE LAND. THIS WAS NOT REBELLION IT WAS MERELY REASONABLE LOGIC. BUT YAHUSHA WANTED JOSHUA TO BE THE ONE TO SUPERVISE THE DIVISION SO WITH JOSHUA FEELING THE AFFECTS OF OLD AGE YAHUSHA WANTED THIS DONE SOONER THAN LATER INCASE JOSHUA DIED BEFORE THE LAND ALLOTMENT WAS ACCOMPLISHED. FURTHER YAHUSHA WANTED WHATEVER PORTION OF THE LAND THAT YISHARAL DID HOLD, TO BE DIVIDED AS IS AND YAHUSHA WOULD, IN HIS TIME, TAKE CARE OF THE REMAINDER.
SO JOSHUA’S FINAL TASK IS NOT THAT OF WAR, BUT OF THE SEPARATION OF LAND THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN WON BY WAR.
And Yahusha continued, "First, there’s the Canaanite Territory that belongs to the five Philistine rulers that you haven't conquered yet, as well as the North which belongs to the Sidonians. So with My help, Yisharal will capture these Canaanite Territories and force out the people who live there. But you must divide up the land from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea among the nine and a half Tribes that don’t have any land yet. Then each Tribe will have its own land”.
Moses did not give any land to the Tribe of Levi because Yahusha the Alahim of Yisharal had told them, “Instead of land, you will receive the sacrifices offered at My altar.”
THE LEVITES GOT STUFF `UNDER THE BAN’ !
THAT'S RIGHT, WHATEVER HAD BEEN PUT ASIDE AS SET-APART PROPERTY FOR YAHUSHA, INCLUDING VOW OFFERINGS AND ALSO SPOILS OF SET-APART WAR. THE LEVITES WERE ENTITLED TO THE SAME SET-APART PROPERTY THAT THE OTHER YISHARALITE TRIBES WERE FORBIDDEN (UNDER PAIN OF DEATH) FROM TAKING. THEREFORE EXCEPT FOR THE DWELLING PLACES OF THE CANAANITE PEOPLE THAT WERE DESTROYED BY JOSHUA’S ARMY AND EXCEPT FOR THE CANAANITE PEOPLE THEMSELVES THAT WERE KILLED, GENERALLY SPEAKING EVERYTHING ELSE THAT WAS DESIGNATED AS SET-APART PROPERTY TAKEN AS YAHUSHA’S PORTION FROM THE SPOILS OF WAR WENT TO THE LEVITES FOR THEIR USE. INTERESTING ?
Moses had given the land East of the Jordan to the Tribes of Reuben, Gad and half of Menassah and given them very specific borders.
MOSES DIVIDED THE TERRITORY IN THE TRANS-JORDAN (EAST OF THE JORDAN RIVER) BEFORE IT WAS COMPLETELY CONQUERED, SO THERE IS NO REASON THAT JOSHUA COULDN’T DO THE SAME ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE RIVER.
JOSHUA WOULD DECIDE WHEN THE SOLDIERS OF REUBEN, GAD, AND HALF THE TRIBE OF MENASSAH HAD FULFILLED THEIR DUTY TO FIGHT WITH THE REST OF YISHARAL AND THIS WAS THAT TIME. THE MAJOR BATTLES FOR THE SOUTHERN AND NORTHERN REGIONS OF CANAAN HAD BEEN FOUGHT AND WON AND THE 2½ TRIBES DID AS THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO. THEREFORE JOSHUA, UNDER THE DIRECTION OF YAHUSHA, IS READY TO DECLARE THAT THE EASTERN LANDS ARE OFFICIALLY GIVEN TO REUBEN, GAD, AND ½ OF MENASSAH AND THEY HAVE NO FURTHER DUTY TO THE 9½ TRIBES WHO HAVE NOW MOVED INTO THE PROMISED LAND.

And even though the two and a half tribes had already received land east of the Jordan River (and the Levi tribe wouldn’t receive a large region like the other tribes, but instead towns and the nearby pastures for their sheep, goats, and cattle), and since the descendants of Joseph had become the two tribes of Ephraim and Menassah, there were still nine and a half tribes that needed land and their inheritance would be decided by casting lots. But Yahusha had told Moses that He would show those Tribes how to divide up the land of Canaan. So when the priest Eleazar, Joshua, and the leaders of the families and tribes of Yisharal met to divide up the land of Canaan, Yahusha showed them how to do it.
WHY CASTING LOTS?
THE FIRST CHOOSING OF THE LOTS (WITH MOSES) DEALT WITH THE GENERAL LOCATIONS OF EACH TRIBAL TERRITORY IN THE LAND (WHO WOULD GET LAND BY THE JORDAN RIVER, BY THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA, WHO WOULD GET THE DESERT COUNTRY, WHO WOULD GET THE LUSH HILLS, AND SO ON). WHAT TRIBE WOULD BUMP UP AGAINST ANOTHER TRIBE. BUT WHAT WAS NOT DEALT WITH WAS THE SIZE OF EACH TERRITORY. THE EXACT BOUNDARIES WOULD BE DETERMINED BY HEAD-COUNT WITH THE LARGER TRIBES GETTING MORE TERRITORY THAN THE SMALLER TRIBES BECAUSE THEY NEEDED IT. AS WE’LL FIND OUT IN UPCOMING CHAPTERS, THIS DIDN’T GO ALL THAT SMOOTHLY AND SOME ADJUSTMENT HAD TO BE MADE OVER THE YEARS IN BOTH SIZE OF SPECIFIC TRIBAL TERRITORIES AND EVEN THEIR LOCATION.
One day while the Yisharalites were still camped at Gilgal, Caleb the son of Jephunneh went to talk with Joshua. Caleb belonged to the Kenaz clan, and many other people from the Judah tribe went with Caleb.
NOTICE IT SAYS THAT CALEB WAS THE SON OF JEPHUNNEH THE KENNIZITE. THIS IS ACTUALLY RATHER STARTLING WHEN WE UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS MEANS. CALEB’S BIOLOGICAL FATHER WAS JEPHUNNEH OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH. BUT JEPHUNNEH DIED AND APPARENTLY CALEB’S MOTHER REMARRIED A FELLOW NAMED KENAZ (HENCE THE WORD KENAZ-ITES). SO KENAZ BECAME CALEB’S STEPFATHER. KENAZ WAS DESCENDED FROM EDOM, A NON-YISHARALITE TRIBE. SO HERE WE HAVE CALEB WHO IS CLOSELY TIED TO THE EDOMITES, BUT YET A MEMBER OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH, ASKING FOR HIS LAND INHERITANCE. THE POINT IS THAT THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS GENEALOGICAL PURITY AMONG THE YISHARALITES, AND THERE WASN’T EVEN GENEALOGICAL PURITY AMONG THE EARLIEST HEBREWS GOING BACK TO ABRAHAM. AND THAT IS EXACTLY AS YAHUSHA INTENDED AND HE TOLD ABRAHAM THAT ANY FOREIGNER WHO WANTED TO JOIN THE HEBREWS SHOULD BE WELCOMED, WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT TO JOIN MEANT TO FOLLOW ONLY THE ALAHIM OF ABRAHAM. LATER WE FIND IN THE EARLY DEVELOPMENT OF THE NATION OF YISHARAL (FOUNDED BY JACOB) THAT MOST OF THE PEOPLE THAT HE TOOK WITH HIM (AS YISHARALITES) TO EGYPT WERE ACTUALLY FOREIGNERS THAT HE HAD CAPTURED FROM SHECHEM. SO CALEB IS BUT ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HOW RACE AND GENEALOGIES MEAN NOTHING TO YAHUSHA, BUT INSTEAD IT’S TRUST IN HIM AND OBEDIENCE TO HIM THAT HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THE ISSUES.
Caleb told Joshua: “You know that back in Kadesh-Barnea Yahuah talked to His prophet Moses about you and me. I was forty years old at the time when Moses sent me from Kadesh into Canaan as a spy. When I came back and told him about the land, everything I said was true, but the other spies said things that made our people afraid, but I completely trusted Yahuah our Alahim. The same day I came back, Moses told me, “Since you were trustworthy to the Yahuah, I promise that the places where you went as a spy will belong to you and your descendants forever". Joshua, it was forty-five years ago that Yahuah told Moses to make that promise, and now I’m eighty-five. Even though Yisharal has moved from place to place in the desert, Yahuah has kept me alive all this time as He said he would and I’m just as strong today as I was then, and I can still fight as well in battle. So I’m asking you for the hill-country that Yahuah promised me that day. You were there, you heard the other spies talk about that part of the hill country and the large, walled towns where the Anakim live. But maybe Yahuah will help me take their land, just as he promised?”
WE GET AN INTERESTING AND HELPFUL PIECE OF INFORMATION HERE; IT SAYS THAT CALEB WAS 40 YEARS OLD WHEN HE WENT WITH THE GROUP OF 12 SCOUTS INTO CANAAN, AND THAT THIS EVENT OCCURRED 45 YEARS EARLIER MAKING CALEB 85 YEARS OLD. SINCE YISHARAL WAS OUT OF EGYPT FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS WHEN THEY ARRIVED AT KADESH-BARNEA AND ORGANISED THE SCOUTING PARTY, THAT MEANS THAT AT THE TIME OF THIS MEETING BETWEEN CALEB AND JOSHUA, ABOUT 7 YEARS HAD PASSED SINCE YISHARAL HAD CROSSED OVER THE JORDON RIVER. SO ALL THESE BATTLES WE HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT HAVE TAKEN PLACE DURING A 7-YEAR TIME SPAN.
WE ALSO FIND OUT THAT THE ANAKIM, THAT RACE OF GIANTS, CONTROLLED THE AREA OF HEBRON. SO WHAT WE SEE HAPPENING HERE IS THAT CALEB REMAINS AS BOLD AND CONFIDENT OF VICTORY AT YAHUSHA’S HAND, AS HE WAS 45 YEARS EARLIER AND A MUCH YOUNGER MAN. WE DON’T READ OF ANYONE CHALLENGING CALEB’S REQUEST FOR THIS PARTICULAR PLACE BECAUSE THE REST OF YISHARAL WANTED NOTHING TO DO WITH FIGHTING THE ANAKIM.
So Joshua blessed Caleb, giving him and his descendants the area of Hebron, and it still belongs to Caleb’s descendants, because he was trustworthy to Yahuah the Alahim of Yisharal.
NOW, IN REALITY, CALEB ASKED FOR A WHOLE LOT MORE THAN WHAT HE WOUND UP WITH. HE WANTED ALL THE LAND THAT HE SET HIS FOOT UPON IN CANAAN; BUT HE GOT HEBRON AND THE SURROUNDING LAND. BUT CALEB ALSO RECEIVED A GREAT HONOUR: HE WAS THE FIRST TO RECEIVE A LAND INHERITANCE INSIDE THE PROMISED LAND. AND OF COURSE THIS WAS A REWARD FOR HIS STEADFASTNESS IN STANDING WITH MOSES AND YAHUSHA, FACING DOWN HIS BROTHERS, AND TAKING A MOST UNPOPULAR POSITION (THAT YISHARAL SHOULD IGNORE THE STRENGTH OF THE ENEMY AND PROCEED IN BELIEF TO ATTACK CANAAN). ALSO NOTICE THAT IT WAS THE TRIBE OF JUDAH (CALEB’S TRIBE) WHO GOT THE FIRST PIECE OF LAND IN THE PROMISED LAND.
And there was peace in the land and a rest from fighting.
THIS INDICATES A PAUSE IN THE ACTION. BUT WE SHOULD NOTICE THAT AT THIS POINT ONLY THE SMALLEST DISTRIBUTION OF LAND HAD TAKEN PLACE; ONLY ONE CLAN FROM ONE TRIBE (JUDAH) HAD BY NOW RECEIVED ANY ALLOCATION OF PROPERTY WITHIN THE LAND OF CANAAN. EVEN THOUGH THE EARLIER VERSES SPOKE ABOUT EPHRAIM AND MANASSEH IN THE CONTEXT OF THEM NOT GIVING ANY OF THEIR TERRITORY TO THE LEVITES EXCEPT FOR SOME CITIES, THIS DID NOT INDICATE A LAND DISTRIBUTION AS OF YET.
SHUNNING THE INHERITANCE? REALLY?
WHAT WE’RE GOING TO FIND OUT IN THE UPCOMING CHAPTERS IS THAT IN BETWEEN JUDAH BEING GIVEN THEIR LAND INHERITANCE, AND THE OTHER TRIBES GETTING THEIRS, A LULL OCCURRED. THIS TIME OF LITTLE RECORDED ACTIVITY, AND A PAUSE IN THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE LAND, CAME FOR A RATHER INTERESTING REASON: JOSHUA COULDN’T FIND ANY TAKERS FOR THE LAND HE OFFERED. THE TRIBES FULLY UNDERSTOOD THAT AT THE SAME TIME THEY WOULD BE SETTLING PORTIONS OF THEIR TRIBAL LAND INHERITANCE (THE GOOD STUFF), THEY HAD THE RESPONSIBILITY TO DRIVE OUT OR KILL THE CANAANITES WHO HELD ONTO CERTAIN AREAS WITHIN THEIR LAND (THE NOT SO GOOD STUFF). BY NOW YISHARAL WERE NOMADS; THIS GENERATION (THE 2ND GENERATION) OF THE EXODUS HAD NEVER LIVED IN ANYTHING BUT TENTS. THEY HAD NEVER LIVED IN A CITY, NOR PLANTED CROPS AND TENDED VINEYARDS. THEY WERE HERDERS THAT USED UP THE PASTURELAND AND MOVED ON. THEY KNEW AND WERE COMFORTABLE WITH THE WAY OF THE BEDOUIN. TAKING THE LAND MEANT SETTLING DOWN AND RESTRICTING THEMSELVES TO A RELATIVELY SMALL AREA. IT MEANT RESPECTING BOUNDARIES AND BORDERS. IT MEANT DEFENDING THEIR LAND, BATTLING WITH NEIGHBOURS. NOMADS MOVED THEIR FLOCKS AND HERDS AWAY FROM TROUBLE, NOT INTO IT. "CARPET-BAGGERISM"
The term carpet-bagger, used exclusively as a pejorative term, originated from the carpet bags (a form of cheap luggage made from carpet fabric) which many of these newcomers carried. The term came to be associated with opportunism and exploitation by outsiders. The term is now used in the United States to refer to a parachute candidate, that is, an outsider who runs for public office in an area without having lived there for more than a short time, or without having other significant community ties.
In the United Kingdom at the end of the 20th century, carpetbagger developed another meaning:
in British English it refers to people who join a mutual organization, such as a building society, in order to force it to demutualize, that is, to convert into a joint stock company. Such individuals are seeking personal financial gain through such actions.
The Republican Party in the South comprised three groups after the Civil War, and white Democratic Southerners referred to two with derogatory terms. "Scalawags" were white Southerners who supported the Republican party, "carpet-baggers" were recent arrivals in the region from the North, and freedmen were freed slaves. Although "carpet-bagger" and "scalawag" were originally terms of opprobrium, they are now commonly used in the scholarly literature to refer to these classes of people. Politically, the carpet-baggers were usually dominant; they comprised the majority of Republican governors and congressmen. However, the Republican Party inside each state was increasingly torn between the more conservative scalawags on one side and the more Radical carpet-baggers with their black allies on the other. In most cases, the carpetbaggers won out, and many scalawags moved into the conservative or Democratic opposition. Most of the 430 Republican newspapers in the South were edited by scalawags — 20 percent were edited by carpet-baggers. White businessmen generally boycotted Republican papers, which survived through government patronage.
Opportunists are people who see a chance to gain some advantage from a situation, often at the expense of ethics or morals. An opportunist seizes every opportunity to improve things for himself.
A CARPET-BAGGER IS AN OPPORTUNIST.
These opportunistic carpet-baggers have been planted at midnight amongst the wheat. Carpet-baggers have infiltrated many industries today and amazingly they have invaded the Natsarim belief system also.
CARPET-BAGGERS ARE A MIXTURE.
This mixture is worldliness combined with religion and knowledge, which they use to knock out the next generation or any opponents. Carpet-baggers/ Scalawags are planted right next to us, and the instruction is not to pull up these Scalawags, but let them grow together with us. When the harvest comes, the wheat has matured and bears fruit/behaviour befitting a spotless Bride, while the tares bear no fruit/behaviour, except the mixture where they excret a poisonous gas trying to destroy the wheat.
During the harvest the wheat and the tares are separated into respective bundles, the wheat is stored in the barn/New Jerusalem, while the tares are set on fire and burned.
This instruction shows us the ways of Yahusha, in that our behaviour has to bear the fruits of Scriptural Behaviour, not that of the carpet-bagger's poisonous fake-mixture. We must not be asleep under the carpet-bagger's intoxicating poisons, on distinguishing between these 2 behaviours, lest we are snared into the mixture.
THE 3 RULES ARE A GREAT HELP FOR US TO SEE THE DIFFERENT BEHAVIOURS AND MAKE THE RIGHT DISTINCTION, TO ESTEEM YAHUSHA IN OUR BEHAVIOUR. AND SO IS OUR SITUATION UNTIL HARVEST. YOUNG PEOPLE PLEASE WALK PAST THE CARPET-BAGGERS/SCALAWAGS, RECOGNISING THE FOUL STENCH OF THEIR POISONOUS OPPORTUNISTIC BEHAVIOURAL MINDSET, FOR THEIR ALAHIM IS MONEY.
