THE JEWS HAD DISOBEYED YAHUAH’S LAW OF OBEYING THE SABBATH. THEY HAD BEEN IN THE PROMISED LAND FOR ROUGHLY 800 YEARS (SINCE JOSHUA), AND FOR 490 YEARS, THEY HAD DISOBEYED HIS SABBATH REST. THE SABBATH REST WAS NOT ONLY EVERY SEVENTH DAY - IT WAS ALSO EVERY SEVENTH YEAR FOR THE LAND. IN THE BOOK OF JEREMIAH, YAHUAH TOLD THE PEOPLE THAT HE WOULD EXILE THEM FROM THE LAND FOR 70 YEARS, BECAUSE THIS WAS THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT THE SABBATH REST HAD BEEN DISOBEYED (490 70x7 YEARS TOTAL). THE LENGTH OF THE EXILE WAS SET BECAUSE OF THEIR DISOBEDIENCE TO THE SABBATH, BUT THIS WASN’T THE ONLY REASON FOR THE EXILE. THE JEWS COMMITTED IDOLATRY, CHILD SACRIFICE, AND RITUAL WHORING ... AND JUDGMENT WAS PROMISED !!
NOW DANIEL HAD BEEN A CAPTIVE IN BABYLON SINCE THE FIRST WAVE OF JEWS WERE TAKEN FROM JUDAH BY NEBUCHADNEZZAR DECADES EARLIER ABOUT 606 B.C. HE WAS AN OLD MAN NOW, AND HAD LIVED OUT HIS ENTIRE ADULT LIFE IN SERVICE TO BABYLON. BUT NOW HIS SERVICE WAS TRANSFERRED TO HIS NEW MASTER, THE MEDE KING DARIUS, BECAUSE MEDO-PERSIA HAD CONQUERED BABYLON. DANIEL KNEW THE SCRIPTURAL PROPHECIES WELL AND THOUGHT THAT THE TIME HAD COME TO EXPECT THE RELEASE OF HIS FELLOW JEWS TO RETURN TO THEIR HOMELAND, FINALLY BRINGING AN END TO THEIR CAPTIVITY.

AND YET DANIEL HAD SEEN NO SIGNS WHATSOEVER THAT RELEASE WAS IMMINENT - NOTHING WAS HAPPENING THAT SAID THAT THE JEWS’ RETURN TO THEIR HOMELAND WAS AT HAND. BELIEF AND BELIEF ALONE WAS ALL HE HAD.

1These things happened during the first year that Darius son of Ahasuerus was King. Darius was a Mede by birth, but he was appointed to be the King of Babylon. 2During his first year as King, I was studying the Scripture scrolls and noticed in YAHUAH’S message to Jeremiah that 70 years would pass before Jerusalem would be rebuilt.
THE OVERRIDING PREMISE FOR THIS WHOLE CHAPTER IS THAT DANIEL IS THINKING ABOUT THE PROPHESIED 70 YEARS OF EXILE IN BABYLON AND WONDERING IF IT IS COMING TO AN END.
3Then I turned to YAHUAH Alahim and prayed to Him and asked Him for help. I did not eat any food. I put ashes on my head and put on the clothes that showed I was mourning. 4I prayed to YAHUAH my Alahim and told him about all my sins. I said, "YAHUAH, you are a great and awesome Alahim. You keep your Blood Covenant of love and kindness with people who love You and guard Your Commands. 5But we have sinned. We have done wrong. We have done evil things. We turned against You. We turned away from Your Commands and directives. 6The Prophets were Your servants. They spoke for You to our Kings, to our leaders, to our fathers, and to the common people in our country. But we did not listen to them.
7YAHUAH, You are innocent, and the shame belongs to us, even now. Shame belongs to the people from Judah and Jerusalem, and to all the people of Yisharal, to those who are near and to those you scattered among many nations. They should be ashamed of all the evil things they did against You. 8YAHUAH, we should all be ashamed. All our Kings and leaders should be ashamed. Our ancestors should be ashamed, because we sinned against You.
9But, YAHUAH our Alahim, You are kind and forgiving, even though we rebelled against You. 10We have not obeyed YAHUAH our Alahim. He used His servants, the prophets, and gave us laws, but we have not obeyed His laws. 11All the people of Yisharal disobeyed Your teachings and turned away from You. They did not listen to You. We sinned, so you did what You promised to do. All the curses and promises in the Law of Moses, your servant, happened to us.
12Alahim said those things would happen to us and our leaders, and He made them happen. He made terrible things happen to us. No other city suffered the way Jerusalem suffered. 13All those terrible things happened to us. This happened just as it is written in the Law of Moses, but we still have not asked YAHUAH our Alahim for help. We still have not stopped sinning. We still do not pay attention to Your truth, YAHUAH. 14YAHUAH kept the terrible things ready for us - He made them happen to us. YAHUAH our Alahim did this because He is fair in everything He does. But we still have not listened to Him.
15YAHUAH our Alahim, You used Your power and brought us out of Egypt. We are Your people. You are famous because of that, even today. We have sinned and done terrible things. 16YAHUAH, we and our ancestors sinned against You, so Your people and Your city became a disgrace to everyone around us. You do so many good things, so stop being angry at Jerusalem, Your city, Your set-apart mountain.
17Now, our Alahim, hear Your servant’s prayer. Listen to my prayer for mercy an compassion. For Your own sake, do good things for Your set-apart place and let Your face shine before us. 18My Alahim, listen to me! Open Your eyes and see all the terrible things that have happened to us. See what has happened to the city that is called by Your Name. I’m not saying we are good people. That is not why I’m asking these things. I’m asking these things because I know You are kind. 19YAHUAH, listen to me! Forgive us! YAHUAH, pay attention, and then do something! Don’t wait! Do something now! Do it for your own good! My Alahim, do something now, for Your city and Your people who are called by Your Name.”
70 WEEKS
20I was praying to YAHUAH my Alahim about His set-apart mountain and speaking about my sins and the sins of the people of Yisharal. 21And while I was still praying, Gabriel (the one I saw in the first vision) flew quickly to me and touched me. It was at the time of the evening sacrifice.
DANIEL HADN’T EVEN FINISHED HIS PRAYER WHEN YAHUAH’S ANGEL GABRIEL ARRIVES TO ANSWER AND HELP HIM.
22Gabriel helped me understand the things I wanted to know, saying, “Daniel, I’ve come to give you wisdom and to help you understand. 23When you first started praying, the command was given to come speak to you, because YAHUAH loves you very much! So you will understand this Command, and you will understand the vision.
24You see, YAHUAH has allowed 70 WEEKS for your people and for your set-apart city, Daniel. The 70 WEEKS have been ordered to :
- restrain the lawlessness and rebellion,
- to seal up and finish the sin-offering (ANIMAL SACRIFICES)
- make people pure again from their perverse condition,
- to bring in eternal goodness and righteousness,
- to put a seal on visions and prophets
(TO COMPLETE & AUTHENTICATE THEM),
- to anoint the most set-apart.
(TO ESTABLISH AND ANOINT FOR SERVICE).
A WEEK IS NOT 7 DAYS HERE BECAUSE

SO 70 X 7 YEARS

25Learn and understand these things, Daniel. From the time that the message goes out to return and rebuild Jerusalem (OFFICIAL DECREE RECORDED IN EZRA), until the time for Messiah the Prince to come will be 7 weeks and 62 weeks.
49 YEARS (7x7) + 434 YEARS (62 x7) = 483 YEARS … WHICH IS WHEN YAHUSHA THE “ANOINTED PRINCE CAME”.
Jerusalem will be rebuilt, there will be places for people to meet together again, but with much pressure and affliction. And there will be a large trench around the city to protect it. 26And after the 62 weeks, the Messiah will be cut off and judged as guilty. He will be gone and have nothing. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED AT YAHUSHA'S DEATH!
ALL THE SINS OF THE WORLD WERE HEAPED UPON YAHUSHA’S SHOULDERS AS HE WAS DYING, SUFFOCATING, NAILED TO THAT TORTURE STAKE. HE WAS ESSENTIALLY BEING PUNISHED BY HIS FATHER FOR EVERYTHING (FROM MURDER, TO ADULTERY TO PETTY THEFT). HE DID NONE OF THESE THINGS OF COURSE, BUT HE WAS OUR INNOCENT SUBSTITUTE IN THE SAME WAY ALL THOSE BULLS AND GOATS WERE FOR CENTURIES. AND PART OF THE PUNISHMENT DECREED BY THE LAW OF MOSES FOR THE WORST OF THESE CRIMES WAS TO BE ‘KARET’ (PHYSICALLY AND SPIRITUALLY CUT OFF). OUR DELIVER WAS CURSED WITH SEPARATION FROM YAHUAH SO THAT WE DON’T HAVE TO BE. ON THAT STAKE YAHUSHA WAS SEPARATED FROM HIS PEOPLE AND HIS FATHER, THE ALAHIM OF THE UNIVERSE FOR OUR SAKE.
Then the people of another coming Prince will destroy the city and the set-apart place. (TITUS IN 70.AD) That end will come like a flood, and war will continue until the very end, for YAHUAH has ordered that place to be completely destroyed. 27He will establish a Covenant with many people for one week (7 YEARS). And in the middle of that week, (THAT'S 3.5 YEARS) He’ll stop the offerings and sacrifices.

And for the overspreading wing of abomination He (YAHUSHA) will lay waste, until the complete end and until that which is declared is poured out on the desolate.”
70 WEEK PROPHESY ( 7 + 62 + 1 WEEK )
FROM THE DECREE TO REBUILD JERUSALEM UNTIL MESSIAH THE PRINCE COMES IS 7 + 62 WEEKS = 69 WEEKS (483 YEARS). MESSIAH WILL THEN MAKE A COVENANT WITH MANY FOR 1 WEEK (7 YEARS).
MESSIAH WAS CUT OFF 'IN THE MIDST'
THERE STILL REMAINS ONE WEEK, THE 70th WEEK TO BE FULFILLED. THE PROPHECY TELLS US THAT 'AFTER' THE 7 + 62 WEEKS OF YEARS, MESSIAH THE PRINCE WAS TO BE 'CUT OFF', AND THE GOSPELS SHOW THAT YAHUSHA MINISTERED FOR THREE AND A HALF YEARS AND THEN WAS 'CUT OFF' AND MURDERED ON A TORTURE STAKE TO REDEEM HIS BRIDE BACK.
DANIEL PROVIDES THE TIME ELEMENT OF MESSIAH'S MINISTRY AND HIS DEATH. 'IN THE MIDST' (OR THE MIDDLE) OF THE 70th WEEK, 'HE (MESSIAH) WILL CAUSE THE SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS TO CEASE'. YAHUSHA DID THIS WHEN HE OFFERED UP HIMSELF AS THE PERFECT, SINLESS AND ONCE-FOR-ALL SACRIFICE AND OFFERING. HE CAUSED ANIMAL SACRIFICES TO CEASE BY HIS OWN BLOOD. ANIMAL SACRIFICES WERE NEVER TO BE REPEATED AGAIN. AT HIS IMPALEMENT, YAHUSHA FULFILLED ALL THE SHADOW-TEACHINGS OF THE OLD COVENANT, WITH ITS MATERIAL TEMPLE, ITS ALTARS AND ANIMAL SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS. THE INCENSE AND THE AARONIC PRIESTHOOD AND THE WHOLE OF THE LEVITICAL SYSTEM WERE FINISHED FOREVER! HE FULFILLED IT & ENDED IT, THEN INTRODUCED THE NEW BLOOD-COVENANT TEMPLE, SACRIFICES AND PRIESTHOOD AFTER THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK - HIM! - HE WAS THE FIRST NEW LIVING TEMPLE! ESTABLISH COVENANT FOR 1 WEEK!

HE WAS TO ESTABLISH THE COVENANT FOR ONE WEEK REMEMBER (THAT IS SEVEN YEARS) BUT HE IS CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS WEEK OF MINISTRY. IT LEAVES THREE AND A HALF YEARS LEFT TO BE FULFILLED, AT THE CLOSE OF WHICH, THE WORDS OF THE PROPHECY MUST FIND TOTAL FULFILMENT ... THESE THINGS:

OVERSPREADING OF ABOMINATIONS
GABRIEL STATES, “AND FOR THE OVERSPREADING WING OF ABOMINATIONS HE (MESSIAH) WILL MAKE DESOLATE, UNTIL THE COMPLETE END, AND UNTIL THAT WHICH IS DECLARED IS POURED OUT UPON THE DESOLATE”.
